IN THE BEGINNING: THE HISTORY OF THE FOUNDERS OF PETSCHAUER INSURANCE
John Petschauer was born in Austria in 1933. He loved farming, singing, dancing and sports, especially skiing and soccer. When he was 16 years old John immigrated to Ridgewood, NY after WWII. During this very difficult time for the world; John knew that America would afford many more opportunities for him and his family. The Petschauer Family brought with them a strong work ethic and a desire to be part of a community that shared the same work and family values. Ridgewood was that place! It was filled with many immigrants from adjacent villages as well. What John didn’t know then was that his future wife would be Ingrid Meditz.
Their families knew each other as they came from the same region in Austria! However, John and Ingrid met at the landmark, Gottscheer Hall, in Ridgewood, playing Ping-Pong and attending dances. John also joined a German singing choir, which practiced weekly at this landmark. Music made him smile and he remained a member for over 30 years. This landmark establishment has remained a loyal and valued client of Petschauer Insurance.
How did this young, strong immigrant with a dynamic and kind personality open an insurance agency? Find out how it all started in next’s week blog #3.
