People like Austin, for example. He is a United States Navy Veteran, CCI gave him a chance to live a more independent life. Two years ago, Austin was in a motorcycle accident that left him paralyzed. He completed the intensive two-week training and was paired with his trusty companion Thiago. Thiago, who knows over 40 commands, now assists Austin in various tasks, like turning on and off lights and opening and closing doors. According to Austin, Thiago “has given [him] a purpose.”

Through Canine Companions for Independence, recipients receive their service dogs free of charge. Our agency wants to guarantee people like Austin continue to be paired with trained companions for free!
