Fireworks Safety Tips

Fireworks… we know you have them, and even if you didn’t buy them or are lighting them, you’re probably going to be around them during the Independence Day weekend. Every day in July there is an average of 240 people going to the emergency room with fireworks-related injuries… please, don’t be another statistic and read these safety tips:

  • 5695559519_69d6853d18_bFirst and foremost, make sure that you are legally permitted to light those fireworks on your own
  • Make sure to keep all children away from fireworks
  • Always have an adult supervising the lighting of fireworks. Even sparklers can severely hurt children, so make sure to keep those out of reach
  • Never place any body parts over a firework when lighting a fuse.
  • Back up to a safe distance as soon as you light the firework
  • Never aim or throw a firework at another person (duh!)
  • Keep a hose in reach just in case of a fire
  • Light them one at a time
  • Do not shoot anything out of a glass or metal container

Enjoy your 4th of July weekend, and remember to be cautious around any fireworks, even if you are just there for the show!

2015 Father’s Day Message From Our President

2015_06_16_09_45_20_001

My dad’s memory resonates in all that I do.  So when Father’s Day comes around, it is yet another day I remember and appreciate all the amazing influences he had on me, the lessons he taught me and all the love and support he gave to me.  And make no mistake, his spirit and presence is felt everyday as he guides me through my personal and professional life.  I feel very blessed.

Even through the transition of moving our office to Garden City, NY after 58 years in Ridgewood, NY he was still being a supportive mentor by sending me “signs” that would help prepare me and my team for the challenges and excitement of our new home.  Reflecting on his lessons, there is one that always inspires me every day: “Heidi you are only as successful as your team behind you.  Make a commitment to be there for them every day”.  Sharing this with you makes me smile and I so believe no truer words were ever spoken.

My hope for you today is to make happy memories while honoring that special man in your life.  And, if that special man is with you in spirit, as my dad is, celebrate their life and let those happy memories and lessons live on inside you forever.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

sun-293615_640The climate is beginning to heat up and summer is officially right around the corner. We expect you all to be out there enjoying the weather and spending a lot of time outside, as you all deserve the sunshine! While you are out there having fun in the sun make sure that you are also protecting yourself from it! Here are some simple tips so you avoid any sun burns, skin damage and visits to the doctor in the future:

Cover Up in Style

  • Wear4745425727_a9ee9a4a10_o a wide brim hat that protects your scalp, forehead, eyes, ears, nose and neck- a good opportunity to showcase your fashion sense
  • Wear sunglasses that are UV absorbent
  • Invest in some light weight long sleeved shirts, they’ll keep you cool while protecting your arms

Apply Sunscreen

  • SPF 30 at leadownloadst; Anything less than this won’t protect your skin much, and can result in unwanted sunburns
  • Remember to reapply regularly – especially if you plan on swimming or playing sports

Limit Your Sun Exposure
