Super Bowl XLIX Party Tips from The Petschauer Insurance Team

Super Bowl Party TipsAmerica’s biggest sporting event is undeniably the NFL Super Bowl! Every year families and friends gather around the tube on the first Sunday night of February, to watch the game, catch the infamous commercials, eat up on platters of finger foods, and put money on boxes.  The Super Bowl is this Sunday and the staff at Petschauer Insurance wants to share with you some their traditions and advice.

Game Day Advice:

“We all know people like to drink for the games, so make sure everyone has a designated driver or takes a cab to get home. Drunk driving endangers everyone involved from the driver, passenger, and the host of the party!” – Karen Skoler, Commercial Lines Manager

“If you’re hosting the party, don’t put all of the pressure on yourself when it comes to deciding what food and beverages to serve. When inviting guests ask them to bring some of their favorite food and drinks.  This way you not only have a variety but, you as the host, can join in on the laughter and fun as well! Suggesting that everyone bring something unique can add to the festivities!” – Daniel Bonilla, Social Media Coordinator

Risk Management: Preventing Black Ice

download (1)You don’t know it’s there until you or someone slips and falls. This is the scariest part about black ice…  The chances of you slipping on black ice areso much higher than on regular ice covered pavements. If someone were to fall on your property, you can be held legally responsible for their injuries. To avoid these types of potential law suits, here are some important safety tips from our partners at Chubb Insurance:

  • Shovel/ plow snow towards lower leveled plains, so there is no snow melt runoff.
  • Position your gutters so that it drains into planted areas, or into a water drainage system and not onto sidewalks or driveways
  • Don’t wait for the temperatures to drop to start putting down salt, sand or ice melt. Place the substances down before the freezing may occur.

We also suggest that you review your liability coverage with your independent insurance agent to be sure you have adequate protection as accidents do happen.

Does Your Health Insurance Pay For Your Gym Membership?

Personal_Training_at_a_Gym_-_Cable_CrossoverThe number one New Year’s resolution around the world is to get fit, lose weight, and overall be healthier. Sometimes we just need a little more push to make the extra effort to achieve that goal. What if we informed you that your health insurance may actually pay for your annual gym membership?!

Yes, you did read that correctly! There are a number of health insurance providers who will reimburse you for the entire year’s membership. You will feel better and may even save yourself some money as you live that healthier lifestyle.

Contact your insurance provider today to find out if they offer this service. And, if they do, find out what the process is to receiving that reimbursement. More and more insurance companies are beginning to see the value in taking care of their members.

This could be the news you have been waiting for!

And check out these simple tips on how to keep your New Year’s resolution going all year long:

1) Be realistic. Give yourself an attainable goal. It’s good to set the bar high, but take it one step at a time.

2) Make a plan before you start. Create a work-out calendar that works best for your schedule to keep you feeling successful.

3) Talk about it with your family and friends. It will make them aware of your goals which they can support you in.

4) Understand that Challenges do occur. Don’t beat yourself up if you do miss a day or two . So stay positive and remind yourself that tomorrow is another day.

5) Keep track of your progress. Keeping a journal will help you acknowledge your smaller accomplishments which will lead to your ultimate goal.

6) Treat yourself. Have your favorite food every once in a while as a reward for your hard work. Or treat yourself to some new clothes to work out in if you want to stay away from food reward until you meet your ultimate goal.

Going To College? Have You Applied for FASFA?

financial aidThe New Year is here, and another new period of life is quickly approaching for high school seniors and college grads that are looking to continue their education. It is a very exciting and proud time for you as parents or guardians… yet very expensive too!  If you are like many of us, finding ways to maximize your savings to prepare for these kinds of life events is very important, especially with rising college tuition.  We would like to share a great opportunity available to you and suggest you go to now!

The FASFA or Free Application for Federal Student Aid helps provide prospective students to apply for nationwide financial aid. It is money that is available to you by the federal and state governments as well as the school themselves in the form of loans, scholarships, grants and work-study opportunities.

The sooner you apply,  the higher your chances are of receiving the most that is available to you as opposed to applying close to the deadline when funds may no longer exist (deadlines vary from state to state). We strongly advise you to take advantage of this great opportunity to offer your senior the school and career of their choice!   The application is available right now to submit!

Let us know how you made out!
